Ainda pela rodada inaugural da chave, com o Araruama de mandante no Estádio João Francisco dos Santos, na capital, o Friburguense venceu de virada, por 2 a 1.
A competição tem 25 clubes divididos em cinco grupos. Após turno e returno, os oito de melhor campanha, independentemente da chave, avançarão para as quartas de final.
